Naftogaz says amicable deal possible with Gazprom paying $12 bln

KIEV, Jul 20 (PRIME) -- Ukrainian energy holding Naftogaz Ukrainy is ready for an amicable deal with Russian gas giant Gazprom on the latest suits only if Gazprom pays U.S. $12 billion to the company out of court, Naftogaz Ukrainy CCO Yury Vitrenko said on his Facebook page on Friday.

An amicable deal on suits on which the Stockholm arbitration court has already made its decisions is impossible, he said.

“The sum of compensation that we demand from Gazprom under new arbitration cases has exceeded $12 billion. Our demands are grounded, and we are sure of our legal position. If Gazprom wants an ‘amicable deal’ on these new arbitration cases, it can pay us the compensation out of court,” he said.

He also reiterated that Naftogaz Ukrainy would not stop arrests of Gazprom’s assets in other countries under the Stockholm arbitration court’s ruling.

The Stockholm arbitration court ruled earlier in 2018 that Gazprom must pay Naftogaz Ukrainy $2.56 billion for non-shipment of gas. Gazprom said in June that a court of appeals suspended the ruling and that the company would use the decision as a ground to contest property seizure under the case in Switzerland and the Netherlands. Naftogaz Ukrainy is trying to enforce the arrest.

The Ukrainian company also filed a new, $11.58 billion suit against Gazprom to the court seeking revision of the gas transit tariff from March 2018.
